Geografical data for university students and staff
Data from Swedish Agencies
Lund University has signed an agreement granting access to convenient downloading service for geodata from a number of Swedish governmental agencies. These are Lantmäteriet (Swedish Surveying and Cadastral Agency), Sveriges geologiska undersökning, SGU (Sweden Geological Survey), Statistiska centralbyrån, SCB (Statistics Sweden), Sjöfartsverket (Swedish Maritime Administration) and Trafikverket (Swedish Transport Administration). The agreement covers utilization of data for non commercial research and/or formal education.
Accredited users are staff and students with Lucat/STIL accounts.
The agreement grants access to both downloading of data and visualization map services (WMS).
For more information, see "National infrastructure for geodata - Geodata.se" and for more specific information about terms and content for the university, see here.
On this page for the agreement with universities you can e.g. find more detailed information about:
- which activities are regarded as research and education in this agreement
- what are we allowed to do, and not to do, with these data
- which data are included and description about them (for a complete list, see the Swedish version of the site)
- which governmental agencies are data providers and contact addresses to them.
The agreement can be found here: Geodata.se "License Agreement for Geodata within Reseach and Education" (Swedish only).
Geographic Extraction Tool (GET)
GET is a map service used for downloading of vector and raster data included in the above mentioned agreement. The service is run by SLU and can be reached HERE.
Login to the map service is done via SWAMID, i.e. for Lund: Lucat/STIL account.
Visualisation map services via WMS
For visualization of maps from Lantmäteriet in a GIS software (or a WMS viewer) the agreement grants access to some of Lantmäteriet's WMS services. Access to these services, and information on how to use them together with ArcGIS, can be reached from Lund University GIS Centre via this link. Lucat/STIL account is used also for this.
Copyrights and referencing
When using data from the above mentioned services for any kind of publications, it should be clearly shown that the data providing agency has the copyright to all data products. This should be shown by applying the following referencing text in connection to your published figure:
"© Name of agency, Dnr: I2014/00579".
For more details, see the agreement.
Access to ArcGIS software for staff and students is made available from GIS centre > Software.
Examples of other WMS viewers can be found at Geospatial Data Service Centre.
Data formats in GET
Geo data/Maps are delivered as raster or vector files.
Raster(picture)format: TIF format (geo coded for GIS).
Can be used directly as inserted map picture in a document.
Vector format: ESRI Shape format. Requires GIS software.
Laser data: LAS format. Special format for laser scanned data. See the product information attached to the data delivery.
